Worth playing in 2026?

No verdict — not out yet

World of Warcraft: Forever isn't released (November 4, 2026 (confirmed; beta from September 17)), and hype is not a verdict. When it launches, the score and monetization data will speak for themselves — track it on the release calendar until then.

Worth it if

  • Classic veterans who have run out of vanilla
  • Slow-leveling social players
  • Guild-first raiders who want 10- and 20-player content

Skip it if

  • you need something to play tonight

Pros & cons

  • Genuinely new vanilla-era content at launch: three new zones, nine dungeons, 10- and 20-player raids, 1,000+ quests, and the Skyborne race
  • Level 60 stays the cap — the game grows sideways, so nothing you earn is obsoleted by a new tier
  • No separate purchase: any active WoW subscription or game time gets you in on November 4
  • Vanilla pacing is the point — slow leveling, long sessions, and a guild-dependent endgame
  • The beta is locked behind ~$60–80 pre-purchase packs
  • "Forever" is a promise, not a track record — the four-month update cadence is unproven

Best for

  • Classic veterans who have run out of vanilla
  • Slow-leveling social players
  • Guild-first raiders who want 10- and 20-player content

Notes & links

Unveiled by Holly Longdale as the closing reveal of the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony (September 12, 2026) and built by the WoW Classic team. Beta from September 17 (pre-purchase packs only), early name reservation October 27–November 3, launch November 4, 2026; Blizzard has said the first content update is planned for March 2027 with updates roughly every four months after. Gameplay scales are provisional, inherited from the vanilla ruleset until the beta shows what changed — grind level, PvP realm types, and Mac support are carried over from WoW Classic, not separately confirmed. Population fields are empty by design: unreleased.
